Ferdinand Omanyala is taking a different approach this season and has admitted to walking by faith as he seeks Olympic glory.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has explained that he is approaching the 2024 season with faith and just taking a day at a time.

This comes after the 28-year-old had a disastrous season last year that led to his poor show at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Omanyala was a pre-race favourite at the event, but unfortunately faded to finish seventh.

Omanyala shared that this season he will be doing very few races as he builds up for the crème de la crème of the year, the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The Commonwealth Games champion noted that his perspective has changed and he will only focus on taking a day at a time and believing in his training and what he is capable of doing.

“The previous seasons we’ve been picking up so early and by now I could be having the world lead and it would be broken in June.

“This season when we changed my coach we are now doing things differently and I don’t want to peak when it’s not the right time and we have also reduced the number of races.

“I have been doing a lot of races previously but this year we are having a different approach with less expectations.

“This season for me is a season of faith and I’m just approaching each day as it comes and not focusing on tomorrow when today is not done. I want to trust in myself, trust the process, and trust the training,” Omanyala said.

He also disclosed that after the World Championships in Budapest, he changed coaches and started working with Geoffrey Kimani at the time, something that shifted his perspective going into the Diamond League Meeting final where he finished an impressive third.

“I changed coaches immediately after Budapest. That’s why there was a huge change in times when I went to Zagreb and the Diamond League,” Omanyala said.
