Lotus Bank Abeokuta 10KM Race is scheduled for 9th September 2023.
The organizers of the Abeokuta 10KM Race, Nilayo Sports Management Limited, have announced Lotus Bank as the race's headline sponsor for the third edition.
Lotus Bank Abeokuta 10KM Race is scheduled for 9th September 2023. The route of the race will starts at Iyana Oloke and ends at Ake Palace.
Tadu Teshome Nare, an Ethiopian runner, was the first woman to cross the finish line at the first edition of the race in 2019, Biwott Alan Kemboi, a Kenyan runner, was the first male.
The project manager of the race, Emmanuel Odeh, said that the race will commemorate Alake and the paramount ruler of Egbaland on his 80th birthday.
He added that the race's last two editions established Abeokuta as a fantastic road racing destination; this one will solidify that perception.
"We proudly announce Lotus Bank as the headline sponsor of the Great Abeokuta 10KM Race. Coincidentally, the race will also commemorate Alake and the paramount ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Highness, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo's 80th birthday.
"This milestone is a landmark for Egbaland, and we felt it was important to incorporate the race as part of the weeklong activities to celebrate Alake's birthday.

Daniel Ebenyo and Kipriu set new Okpekpe course records to win titles for the first time
Kenya's Daniel Ebenyo and Kazakhstan's Caroline Chepkoech Kipriu were the winners of the 2023 Okpekpe International 10km road race, storming to new Course Records.
"The past two editions of the race have put Abeokuta on the world map as an amazing road race destination, this edition will further entrench that narrative," he said.
Odeh added that several international runners are expected for the race.
