Adidas proposes a groundbreaking sponsorship deal aimed at supporting and elevating Jamaican track and field.

Global sports goods manufacturers Adidas have unveiled an ambitious plan to revolutionize Jamaica’s track and field landscape with a whopping JM $5.7 billion (Ksh 4,813,182,600) investment proposal spanning the next eight years.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to bolster not just the elite level of the sport but also its grassroots, promising a comprehensive uplift in infrastructure and athletic support across the country.

Under the magnanimous proposal, Adidas is set to allocate nearly US $3 million (Ksh 390,000,000.00) annually to the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).

This financial injection is designated for operational costs and the furtherance of the country’s athletic programs, according to documents released by the German sports giant.

"In addition to the yearly cash provision, we’re committing US $2,180,000 in equipment annually, ensuring our next generation of athletes and the current champions have world-class gear to continue Jamaica’s legacy in track and field," reported Nationwide Radio Jamaica.

The deal specifies US $2 million (Sh260,000,000) in general athletic products and an additional US $50,000 ( Ksh 6,500,000)per year specifically for budding Jamaican athletes.

A notable aspect of the deal is the inclusion of a 10% royalty bonus from the sales of Adidas apparel associated with Jamaican athletics, potentially adding a significant revenue stream for the sport’s development in the island nation.

Additionally, Adidas proposes a US $2.5 million (Sh260,000,000) annual retainer for the JAAA and a US $250,000 (Ksh 32,500,000) budget dedicated to infrastructure repairs and upgrades throughout Jamaica.

The sponsorship extends to the personal development and global competition readiness of athletes, earmarking a US $20,000 (Ksh 2,600,000) executive travel budget for the JAAA president to ensure Jamaica’s representation at international meetings and events.

Moreover, Adidas has highlighted a reward system for athletes achieving global success.

Olympians standing on the podium can expect up to US $25,000 (Ksh 3,250,000) for gold, with considerable rewards for silver and bronze.

Similarly, rewards are set for World Championships, World Juniors, and World Relays achievements, reinforcing Adidas’s commitment to celebrating and incentivizing Jamaican athletic excellence.

The JAAA, currently in a sponsorship deal with Puma set to expire in November this year has the Adidas proposal under consideration.

However, Ludlow Watts, the treasurer of JAAA, acknowledged being unaware of the document but expressed interest in exploring the proposal's details further.
