The Kenyan sprinter clinched gold at the ASA Grand Prix.
Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala is yearning for a face-off against South Africa’s Akani Simbine.
Speaking after winning the 100m at the ASA Grand Prix, the 27-year-old revealed that he would want Simbine to join him in the second edition of the Grand Prix Gemiston slated for Wednesday, April 19.
After the competition, the Commonwealth Games 100m gold medallist will then compete at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix on Saturday, April 29.
“We hope that he comes in next week. If he doesn’t, I’m sure we shall meet in Botswana for the Grand Prix,” Omanyala said.

The African record holder smashed the track in typical fashion in South Africa, edging South African pair Benjamin Richardson and Rivaldo Roberts,
Omanyala and Simbine first went head to head during the 2021 Diamond League Meeting edition in Brussels where the Kenyan managed a fourth-place finish (10.02) as Simbine settled for sixth place in 10.18.
Africa's fastest man extended his hot streak to defeat Simbine at the African Athletics Championships last year where he emerged victorious as Simbine was forced to settle for second place.
He then stunned the 2015 Commonwealth Games 100m champion Simbine during last year’s Commonwealth Games to clinch the title in 10.02. Simbine settled for second place in 10.13.
Meanwhile, Omanyala had promised a sub-10 performance but he could only manage a 10.12 finish. He, however, insisted that he was not disappointed with the performance as he eyes more glory in the next races.
“It was a good race and we’re now picking up from where we left off. We were expecting a sub 10 but that couldn’t happen, however, a win is a win either way. I’m looking forward to next week and I hope to run fast times,” he said.

His first race will be on April 12 at the Tuks Stadium.
He added that he is still targeting to run 9.60 seconds before the year ends. He also intends to make history at the World Championships slated for August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.
“I just want to compete in many races to remain in good shape. 9.60 still remains to be the target for this year,” he said.
