America’s Gabby Thomas stepped up her preparations for the Olympic games with a late surge to victory in the women’s 200m of the 2024 London Diamond League on Saturday.
Thomas, who will be representing USA in the 200m in Paris, kept Dina Asher-Smith, who was highly backed by her home crowd at bay and looked like she would finish second, before she found some speed in the last 20 meters to stroll to victory on 21.82.
She finished ahead of Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred, who finished second on 21.86, setting a national and personal record.
