The 2022 London Marathon champion Amos Kipruto has advised fellow athletes to practice patience as they seek to leave a mark in their careers.

Kipruto revealed that many athletes want to use shortcuts to achieve their targets but unfortunately, their joy is short-lived.

“What kills most of our athletes is impatience because everyone wants to get to the top as soon as possible and that’s always not the case. I understand some of them are breadwinners but you don’t necessarily need to engage in some heinous acts.

They should practice patience because, at the end of the day, their time will always come,” he said.

Kenya was on the verge of being banned by World Athletics from participating in events. The spike in cases also saw the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) head Brett Clothier travel into the country to see ways how to curb the menace.

The latest doping case occurred on Thursday, April 20, and saw Samuel Lomoi being sanctioned for four years due to the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide. The hearing panel concluded that the violation by the athlete was intentional.

The 2019 world marathon bronze medallist also expressed his frustration with the dopers saying they are tarnishing the reputation of the clean athletes. He added that most of them end up using drugs that affect them in the long run which is sad.

“It’s very demoralizing because I don’t know what the future holds,” he said.

Kipruto observed that the AIU, ADAK, Athletics Kenya, and the government are working together and he hopes normalcy will be resumed as soon as possible.

“I’m happy because the AIU is working. I hope they invest more funds in ways on how to catch these dopers. I hope they come up with smart ways on how to curb this menace to ensure that people run clean,” he said.

Meanwhile, speaking about the London Marathon scheduled for Sunday, April 23, Kipruto said he has the morale to go and perform even better after his training mates, Evans Chebet and Benson Kipruto finished in the podium bracket of the Boston Marathon.

He goes to the race as the defending champion but that is not a bother to him as he said his training has been extensive.

“I’m looking forward to running a good race on Sunday,” he said.
