AK released its calendar of events for 24/25 season on October 2, dedicated to paving the way for preparations ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championship in Tokyo.
Athletics Kenya(AK) has announced that its 2024/25 calendar of events is poised to kick off on October 19-24 with the Machakos Cross-Country weekend meet.
The Machakos Cross-Country is the first leg of the Cross-Country series that will run till January 2025.
"Athletics Kenya is excited to announce the start of its new calendar with the first leg of the Cross-Country Series set for October 19, 2024, at The Machakos Teachers College," announced AK via a tweet on their X account.
The Cross-Country run will feature the 2km Fun Run for both men and women, 2km mixed relays, 6km U-20 women's run, the 8km U-20 men's run and both the men's and women's 10km senior run.

Athletics Kenya has been praised for leading the campaign on climate change after World Athletics was feted at the BBC Green Sport Awards for its work on climate action.
AK has announced the prize money for the event with the winner in the senior men's and women's race pocketing a sum of Ksh50,000 while the runner-up walks away with Ksh40,000 as a third-place finish will earn Ksh20,000.
In the junior men's and women's races, the winner will collect a sum of Ksh30,000 while the runner-up will pocket Ksh20,000 with third-place walking way with Ksh15,000
The mixed relays will see the winner walk away with Ksh40,000 while both the runner-up and third-place pocket Ksh30,000 and 20,000 respectively.
The Cross-Country race is the first of many in a cakendar of events that has been tailor made as preparation for the roadmap to Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championship.
