“For all the other events, the qualifying time was 12 months from July 31, 2022, to midnight July 30, 2023,” he added.

He emphasized that all the invited athletes must participate in the trials in order to be selected and they must make a commitment upon selection by signing a commitment form.

“All athletes invited for the trials must come with their travel documents and they will be accommodated after the trials for the purposes of documentation and other administration requirements,” he said.

Tuwei also insisted that athletes participating during the trials will be required to go take their Bib numbers on Thursday, July 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The criteria to be used to select the team will be that the first two athletes to cross the finish line will automatically be selected provided they have qualified as per the World Athletics entry standards.

“The athletes who wish to double will be allowed to do so, however, the decision to double at the World Championships will be a preserve of the selection panel,” he added.

He also noted that the selection of the third athlete where necessary will also be subject to the decision of the selection panel. He added that wild card athletes must run at the trials and if there are two wild cards, the fastest will be picked.

“Athletes qualifying after the trials and before the window closes will be considered if the discipline quota is not filled. Also, in case an athlete’s name does not appear in the list and has completed the testing requirement, their eligibility will be considered,” he added.
