In what is billed as a battle of the titans, the 5000m Monaco Diamond League set for July 21 at the Stade Louis II Stadium will pit Uganda's Olympic bronze medallist Jacob Kiplimo against 2021 Wanda Diamond League champion Berihu Aregawi.
In a star-studded race, Kiplimo will face tough competition from renowned athletes such as Yomif Kajelcha, Bekele Telehu (Ethiopia), Ahmed Muhammad (Canada), and Kenya's Martin Kimeli.
However, the spotlight is on Kiplimo and Ethiopian stars Aregawi and Kajelcha, who have posted impressive times this season.
Aregawi has posted the fastest time this year, with Kiplimo and Kajelcha closely following.
Showing great form, Aregawi beat Joshua Cheptegei to the podium with a time of 12:40.45 at Lausanne's Athletissima meeting on June 30.

ATHLETICS Team Uganda intensify preparations for World Championships medals
Uganda’s Budapest-bound team for the World Athletics Championships have entered camp in Kapchorwa to intensify preparations. The World Athletics Championships are set for August 19-27 in Hungary.
Kiplimo and Kajelcha clocked the fifth fastest time in history at a distance this year with a 12:41.73 photo-finish at the Oslo Diamond League last month.
Joshua Cheptegei, who set the 5,000m world record of 12:35.36sec at the 2020 Monaco Diamond League meeting, will not be taking part.

ATHLETICS Uganda confirms 20 athletes for World Athletics Championships
Uganda's World Athletics team is gaining momentum as 20 elite athletes have confirmed their participation in the 2023 World Athletics Championships scheduled for August in Budapest.
The 2023 Monaco Diamond League meeting will serve as the precursor to the World Athletics Championships, due August 19-27 in Budapest.
