Benson Kipruto has explained the motivation behind why he badly wants to beat Eliud Kipchoge at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Reigning Tokyo Marathon champion Benson Kipruto has disclosed why it will be special for him to dethrone former world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games coming up later this year.
Kipruto was selected in the men’s marathon squad alongside defending champion Kipchoge, Tokyo Marathon champion Alexander Mutiso and Timothy Kiplagat who has been selected as a reserve.

The former Boston Marathon has opened up about his plans to beat Kipchoge, whom he refers to as a mentor and he believes it will be a great thing since it will be proof that he is on the right track. Meanwhile, Kipchoge will be hoping to win his third title and make history as the first man to ever do it.
Kipchoge bagged his first Olympic marathon title at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and then defended his title at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

“It’s a good feeling to compete against him and it will even be more special for me to beat him because he is my role model. If he is my role model, he has led the way and I’m following him and if I beat him, he should thank me because I’ve learnt from him,” Kipruto told Sport On.
After beating Kipchoge at the Tokyo Marathon, Kipruto was over the moon, explaining that he has been learning from the best. In the race, Kipchoge finished 10th at the event.
The 33-year-old noted that he copies everything Kipchoge does and loves his discipline since it has propelled him to claim a lot of achievements on the track and roads.
“Eliud is a disciplined guy and I usually copy a lot from him. When I competed with him and defeated him, I felt like it was a good sign that I’m on the right track, after beating my role model. When he steps aside, I’m ready to take over from him,” Kipruto added.
