Sports betting company betPawa has lauded the success of its men's and women’s teams in the inaugural Corporate Run, held on Sunday, 13th October 2024, at the Dove Stadium in Luzira.
The event, organized by Corporate Games Limited, aimed to raise awareness and funds for maternal health care services across Uganda, under the theme “Run for Expectant Mothers.”
betPawa’s teams, led by local partner Allan Tumushabe, emerged victorious in both the men's and women's five-kilometre competitions. Tumushabe, while celebrating the win, emphasized the importance of the cause, stating: “Our employees gave it their all in both the race and spreading the message on the need to assist our mothers get improved health care during delivery.”

The Corporate Run was designed to rally support towards reducing maternal and infant mortality rates by ensuring proper and timely health care for expectant mothers.
The event set a target to raise UGX 100 million, to procure 1,000 maternity kits that will be distributed to four major health centres across Eastern and Northern Uganda. In total, UGX 32.5 million was raised, with betPawa contributing UGX 10 million to the cause.

betPawa's Country Marketing Manager, Ivy Igunduura, highlighted the significance of the initiative: “Every year, at least 95% of maternal deaths occur in low to lower-middle-income countries, most of which are preventable. Supporting this cause is our way of joining the effort to reduce these deaths and giving back to the community that believes in our brand.”

Corporate Games Ltd Chairman, Ian Rumanyika, expressed gratitude to all participants and emphasized the power of sport in driving social change. He noted that the Corporate Run is just the beginning of many initiatives aimed at supporting critical health care services in the country.
With the funds raised, the event aims to provide maternity kits to expectant mothers, furthering the efforts to enhance maternal health care and reduce preventable deaths during childbirth.
