World Athletics noted that the top eight teams at the 2022 World Championships automatically qualified.

National 200m champion Boniface Mweresa was among the Kenyan quartet that was disqualified from participating at the True Athletes Classics in Leverkusen, Germany.

The team also comprised Commonwealth Games champions Mary Moraa and Wycliffe Kinyamal and Naomi Korir were disqualified after breaching a World Athletics Technical Rule.

They breached TR 24.19 which states that for all takeovers, athletes are not permitted to begin running outside their takeover zones, and shall start within the zone. If an athlete does not follow this Rule, their team shall be disqualified.

In a post on his Instagram page: “We have done our best but it was not our day we fight and strike again when God wants us to.”

The dreams of the Kenyan team to improve their time have now been shattered and their fingers remain crossed that by the time the window closes (Monday, July 31), they will still be among the top 16.

As reported by World Athletics, the top eight teams at the 2022 World Championships automatically qualified. They include the Dominican Republic, Netherlands, USA, Poland, Jamaica, Nigeria, Italy, and Ireland.

For the other teams to qualify, they have to be among one of the top-ranked sides at the end of the qualification period, July 31.
