African Games champion Brian Komen has put Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr on notice ahead of the Paris Olympics as Kenya seeks to reclaim the 1,500m title.
African Games 1,500 gold medallist Brian Komen has fired a warning to respective Olympic and world 1,500m champions Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Kenya has not won an Olympics gold in 1,500m since Asbel Kiprop in Beijing, China in 2008 while the world title has eluded them since Timothy Cheruiyot won the 2019 crown in Doha, Qatar.
European runners have dominated the 1,500m in the last three years with Jake Wightman and Kerr, both from Great Britain, winning the world titles in 2022 and 2023 while Norwegian Ingebrigtsen won Olympics gold in Tokyo three years ago besides clinching silver at the Worlds in 2022 and 2023.

Kenyans therefore have their work cut out heading to the Paris Olympics but Komen, who clocked a personal best 3:32.29 to finish second at the Kip Keino Classic, just weeks after upsetting Abel Kipsang to win gold in Accra, is unfazed by the competition.
“We are coming for them,” Komen told Pulse Sports when asked about taking on Ingebrigtsen and Kerr.
“We going back to training and working hard to reclaim our title. Europeans have been dominating like in the last two-three seasons but if we work hard, perfect and be disciplined, everything will be okay.”

ATHLETICS Brian Komen upsets Abel Kipsang yet again to claim gold at African Games
Brian Komen has yet again upset Abel Kipsang in the men's 1500m to take the top honours at the African Games.
Komen finished behind Reynold Cheruiyot who won the Kip Keino Classic race in a world leading time of 3:31.96 with Daniel Munguto completing the podium in a personal best 3:33.71.
He believes Kenya has enough runners to form a formidable team at the Olympics but they will need to prepare well to be able to conquer their rivals.
“I just need to work on speed, the last 400m which I thought I was not good at. I need to perfect it and make sure I qualify,” added Komen.

Komen finished runner-up at the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting in Dortmund in 1,500m early in the year, before eighth and fourth places respectively at the Czech Indoor Gala in Prague and at the Metz Moselle Athleor in France.
