Uganda's elite long-distance athletes Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will compete at the Lausanne Diamond League in Switzerland on June 30th.
This is after the duo confirmed their participation in the Lausanne 5000m race, and the Lausanne meeting will likely be the duo's last race before the much-anticipated World Athletics Championships due for August in Budapest, Hungary.
Racing on track for the first time since the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Kiplimo produced a memorable master performance in the 5000m Oslo Diamond League meeting Norway, held last week.
Kiplimo posted a historic 12:41.73, marking the fifth-fastest time ever recorded in a race with a dramatic finish as Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha took the first position separated by a hundredth of a second.
On the other hand, Cheptegei raced to fourth position finish at the Florence Diamond League meeting in his 5000m track season debut.
Returning for the first time since the World Championships, Oregon, Cheptegei posted 12:52.97.
The Kiplimo-Cheptegei partnership has recently produced several podium finishes for Team Uganda.
At the Tokyo Olympics, the partnership settled for silver and bronze in the 10,000m as Ethiopia's Selemon Barega pipped the duo to gold.
In the 5,000m, Cheptegei took the gold medal while Kiplimo struggled to keep up as he finished outside the medal bracket.
Cheptegei holds the 5000m world record of 12:35.36 set at Herculis - Diamond League, while Kiplimo is enjoying fantastic form.
He has the best time (12:41.73) this year, a record he holds with Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha.
The Lausanne Diamond League, held a month before the World Championships, will give the duo ample preparation time.
They are currently training in the high-altitude district of Kapchorwa, Eastern Uganda.
