Elite pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis headlines Shanghai/Suzhou Diamond League in China, showcasing Olympic-year form amid star-studded competition.

China will play host to the greatest pole vaulters of all time as the Shanghai/Suzhou Diamond League gears up to welcome Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis on Saturday 27 April.

The three-time World Athlete of the Year, reigning world and Olympic champion, and indoor and outdoor world record holder will grace the event with his remarkable talent, forming part of a mini-Chinese tour following his Diamond League season opener in Xiamen.

Expressing his excitement about competing in China for the first time, Duplantis stated;

"I always wanted to compete in China and now it will finally happen. I really look forward to it and hope to see a big crowd!."

Duplantis, 24, boasts an unparalleled record in the sport, having made history with numerous clearances over 6m, including his groundbreaking 6.23m jump in Eugene to secure the 2023 Diamond League title.

His unblemished record thus far and recent successes, including defending his world champion title in Budapest and clinching gold in Glasgow at the World Indoor Championships, mark him as a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming competition.

Ellen van Langen, the meeting director, expressed her enthusiasm about returning to China after five years, particularly with Duplantis headlining the event.

"I am happy to be back... and it is great to be able to announce Mondo Duplantis first, being the number one athlete in the world. I am curious what he’ll be able to perform with the support of the Chinese crowd," she remarked.

The Shanghai/Suzhou Diamond League promises a showcase of Olympic-year form, with star-studded fields set to compete in various events.

Among the highlights in track events are the men's 100m, 800m, and 5000m, along with women's competitions in the 200m and 400m, among others.

The event, the second of 15 Diamond League fixtures, holds significant importance in the quest for the Brussels final, scheduled for September 13-14.

Athletes will vie for crucial points as they strive to secure their positions for the final showdown.
