Limo took a break from competitive running in 2016 and returned last year when she competed at the Boston Half Marathon and settled for sixth place in 1:12:11.

The 2016 World Half Marathon championships silver medallist Cynthia Limo is hoping to successfully transition to the full marathon this year after a series of setbacks that saw her take almost seven years off competition.

Speaking to Lasing State Journal, Limo, a mother of two, said she is transitioning to the 42km race since it is not a time-consuming grind. She revealed that it is a different type of grind, with fewer races.

“The marathon is not a big deal. The only difference is the schedule of training. Because when I was training for 10Ks, half-marathons, sometimes I do long runs, like 35 or 40km.

Last year, I was away for like three weeks. It's a big challenge for me, leaving the young kids. They still need that bonding with their mother. So that's what is making me to run marathons,” she said.

Limo slowly making a comeback to the sport is a miracle since one would never know that she endured the loss of a child and suffered from severe later.

As reported by Lasing State Journal, Limo’s oldest daughter was born with a spinal birth defect and died before her second birthday.

“After she passed on, it took me like two years. I was so down, I was so depressed. But with time…it takes time. But right now, I can say that I’m okay. But it took time for me to accept it. Outside of that, I’ve done well…I’m a mother of two again,” she said.

A few years ago, it never seemed like Limo would ever be back into competitive running. However, she revealed that the motivation behind her coming back is because it’s what she loves.

“It's my career. It's my living. And I wanted to run more and (finish) in good times. And treat it like those days before,” she said.

Limo took a break from competitive running in 2016 and returned last year when she competed at the Boston Half Marathon and settled for sixth place in 1:12:11. She then competed at the Flanigan's Rockin' Rib Run 10K where she finished third in 32:50.
