Daniel Simiu and Emmaculate Anyango stole the show to claim the top honours at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country.
Reigning World Half Marathon silver medallist Daniel Simiu and trailblazing athlete Emmaculate Anyango claimed top honours at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country happening at the Lobo Village in Eldoret, Kenya.
Simiu, competing in the senior men’s race, was in a class of his, leading from gun to tape. The in-form athlete cut the tape in 29:16 ahead of World Under20 Cross-country champion Ishmael Kipkurui who clocked 29:18 for a second-place finish.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi was in a class of his own as he obliterated a strong field to win the 2km race at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country.
Weldon Langat completed the podium in the hotly contested race, clocking 29:26 to cross the finish line.
Simiu has been in great form this season, starting off the campaign with a win at the 67° Campaccio-International Cross Country in Italy.

Kelvin Kiptum has signed a partnership deal with Azamfit, a leading global smart wearables brand, as he seeks to break more barriers at the Rotterdam Marathon and Olympic Games.
In a post-race interview, Simiu noted that the event was a great outing as he appreciated his competitors for showing up and pushing him beyond the limits.
“The race was good and the field was fantastic…we ran a good race. I completed the race with huge respect because I knew there was going to be a tough field.
“I promised myself that I would do my best and I’ happy I have honoured that,” Simiu said after the race.
Meanwhile, Anyango dominated the women's race, leading from gun to tape and winning in style. She crossed the finish line in 32:55 as former London Marathon champion Joycilline Jepkosgei followed in 33:10. Catherine Reline sealed the podium, clocking 33:18 to cross the finish line.

Kelvin Kiplagat, an athlete from Eldama Ravine has opened up on his admiration for marathon king Eliud Kipchoge and World Half Marathon silver medallist Daniel Simiu.
After the race, Anyango expressed her gratitude for winning the race and was over the moon for having honoured the promise she made to her coach.
“The race was good and I fought hard for this win. There was also some wind but that is not the big problem because I promised my coach something and I have done it,” she said.
