Daniel Simiu has shared what he hopes for in the 2024 track and field season.
Reigning World 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Simiu is a man on a mission as he eyes a better 2024 season that comprises the Olympic Games and World Cross-country Championships among other events.
Simiu has enjoyed a stellar 2023 season and he just wound up his season with a course record time at the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K on Sunday.
The 28-year-old won the race in 1:11:13 while his compatriot Victor Togom came in second in 1:12:26, finishing inside the previous 1:12:49 course record.

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe has disclosed that plans are underway to add World Championships marathons to World Marathon Majors.
Speaking to the Standard, Simiu explained that he hopes the 2024 season will offer much more and he will be able to compete at the Olympic Games.

“I am thankful this year. Winning the Kolkata race in a course record was another achievement and I thank God for it. With God’s grace, I was able to achieve something special here (in Kolkata) to set the course record.
I have no specific plans for next year. It is my hope that I perform much better in 2023. I do not want to be given a slot (to represent the country) on a silver platter,” he said.

A Kenyan runner encountered weather challenges at Sunday's Hangzhou Marathon and was forced to drop out and let a Chinese runner win the race.
The Iten-based athlete started his season with a sixth-place finish at the World Cross-country Championships in Bathurst, Australia.
He then bagged the silver medal at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and won the Kip Keino Classic over the 10,000m.
At the moment, Simiu has dedicated his remaining time to recovery after numerous successes. He attributed his 2023 achievements to his hard work and God’s grace and also appreciated his loving fans for supporting him.
