David Rudisha is in awe of Emmanuel Wanyonyi's performance at the Kenyan Olympic Games and has predicted what might happen at the Olympics if Wanyonyi maintains that strategy.
World 800m silver medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi stunned the whole world during the Kenyan Olympic trials where he clocked a personal best time and world leading time of 1:41.70 to win the men’s 800m final.
Wanyonyi also clocked the fastest time ever since David Rudisha’s retirement. Rudisha is the world record holder over the distance, when he clocked 1:40.91 to win the 2012 London Olympics.
The two-time Olympic champion was in the vicinity to witness the effort that Wanyonyi put in after he stumbled during the semifinal and ended up finishing sixth in the race. As he came back for the final, he meant business as he ran from the front from gun to tape.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi echoes memories of David Rudisha with dominant victory at Olympic trials
Wunderkind Emmanuel Wanyonyi has relived the memories of David Rudisha following his relentless run at the Kenyan Olympic trials where he clocked the fastest time in the world since Rudisha’s retirement in the men's 800m final at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Rudisha was over the moon to witness the former world under-20 champion clock such a fast time, which is the third fastest in the history of the 800m. He noted that if Wanyonyi repeats the run at the Olympic Games, he will certainly win Kenya a gold medal.

“It was very special to watch him run 1:41.70 at home and we always say it’s another class and it’s good to see him running at this particular time and in this very important year. We know as a country, we have somebody who is going to make us proud at the Olympics.
“In any championship, anything can happen and sometimes it goes into tactics but if he can run like he did today, I’m quite sure that there are high chances of him winning a gold medal for Kenya,” Rudisha said.
Meanwhile, Wycliffe Kinyamal, the Commonwealth Games champion, finished an impressive second, clocking 1:42.50 to cross the finish line. Koitatoi Kidali completed the podium, stopping the clock at 1:42.66.
The trio now head to the Olympic Games, with Kenya’s hopes resting on them to retain the Olympic title that was won by Emmanuel Korir during the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
