Defending champion Bernard Koech leads the strong field. He will be making a return after winning last year’s race in a new course record time of 2:04:09. The Kenyan is undoubtedly the runner to beat at the event.

Koech will be up against his compatriot, Samwel Mailu, who won the 2023 Vienna Marathon and secured the bronze medal at the 2023 World Half Marathon Championships.

Mailu will be Koech’s greatest challenger in the race owing to his newly-found mastery of the marathons.

He seeks to continue his winning streak and will not be stopping at anything short as he looks to upset his compatriot.

Abdisa Tola from Ethiopia will be at the start with his strong time of 2:05:42 hours achieved at the 2023 Dubai Marathon.

The international field of participants includes other outstanding runners, including Tsedat Ayana (Ethiopia, 2:06:18), Felix Kipkoech (Kenya, 2:07:44), Liam Adams (Australia, 2:08:39), Amaury Paquet (Belgium, 2:08:44) and Martin Musau (Uganda, 2:08:45), who won the Haspa Marathon Hamburg 2021 under the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic.
