The double Olympic champ and record-breaker has been awarded Kenya's highest honor as President Ruto lauds her and other athletics stars.

Double Olympic champion and women's 1,500m world record holder, Faith Kipyegon has been bestowed with the prestigious Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H).

President William Ruto made this announcement during the grand 60th anniversary celebration of Jamhuri Day at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

This esteemed accolade is a testament to Kipyegon's extraordinary achievements in the world of athletics, where she has not only clinched double Olympic gold but has also rewritten the history books by setting multiple world records.

Kipyegon's remarkable journey in 2023 has been nothing short of sensational.

She embarked on a stormy campaign that saw her shatter world records not just in the 1,500m category but also in the 5,000m and the one-mile race.

Her incredible feat began in Florence on June 2, where she obliterated the 1,500m world record by clocking an astonishing time of three minutes and 49.11 seconds, surpassing Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba's previous record of three minutes and 50.07 seconds.

In an astonishing display of her prowess, Kipyegon continued her world-beating streak by breaking the 5,000m world record with a remarkable time of 14 minutes and 5.20 seconds during the Paris Diamond League, a mere eight days after her 1,500m record-breaking achievement.

President William Ruto, while announcing this well-deserved recognition, praised Kipyegon's exceptional talent and dedication.

"Today I have conferred upon our world-beating athlete Faith Kipyegon the ranked status of the Elder of Golden Heart, the highest honor our country awards its citizens who illuminate the path of excellence.

"She has earned her place at the very top—from running barefoot to breaking two world records within a year is the ultimate stage of heroism," he said.

This esteemed honor for Faith Kipyegon comes on the heels of her recent coronation as the Female World Athlete of the Year on track in Monaco, France.

It is not just Faith Kipyegon who will be feted for her outstanding contributions to the world of athletics.

The 800m world champion, Mary Moraa, and the 100m African Champion, Ferdinand Omanyala, will also be honored for their remarkable achievements.

Meanwhile, Kelvin Kiptum, the World Marathon record holder, will receive recognition for his awe-inspiring feat of breaking the world marathon record in Chicago by completing the race in two hours and 35 seconds, surpassing the previous record held by Eliud Kipchoge.
