McColgan was forced to withdraw from the London Marathon due to an injury.

Reigning Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Eilish McColgan will be sure to redeem herself at the Wanda Diamond League Meeting in Paris scheduled for Friday, June 9.

The Scottish athlete will be eager to take the start of the 5,000 m, a distance over which she secured a podium finish at the last two European championships (second in 2018 and third in 2022).

She was due too make marathon debut at Sunday’s, April 23 London Marathon but unfortunately could not make it to the start line due to an injury.

However, she has had a great start of her season which saw her win the Berlin Half Marathon to set a new PB and national record of 1:05:43. She also competed in the 10,000m race in San Juan Capistrano where she won in a time of 30:00.86.

So far, she is the only athlete who has confirmed her participation over the distance and hopefully this time round, she will be able to make it to the start line.

Meanwhile, European Indoor 800m Champion, Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain will be lining up for the 800m race. Eagerly awaited at the Charléty Stadium, she’ll notably be up against Rénelle Lamote, who has not lost an 800 m on French soil since August 2019.

However, Hodgkinson is a worthy opponent who boasts of Olympic and world silver medal just at 21 years old. Hodgkinson intends to step up her game and assert herself as the new boss of the double lap of the track.

In the men’s 800 m, the duo of Max Burgin and Jake Wightman will be lining up for the start. Wightman is the world 1500m champion, a title he took right from under the nose of Jakob Ingebrigtsen. The native of Nottingham is certainly not a one-hit wonder though.

The British delegation is not solely made up of middle-distance runners though. Dina Asher Smith, one of the darlings of British athletics, will be in Paris to showcase her burst of speed in the 200m.
