Jamaica’s five-time Olympic champion Elain Thompson-Herah ensured her community had Christmas cheers as she gave back to them in a special way

Olympic champion Elain Thompson-Herah ensured her community had a Christmas to remember as she gave back to them in a big way.

The five-time Olympic champion personally distributed care packages to the locals and also made herself available for photos with fans in her hometown of Banana Ground.

Over 350 care packages were distributed, with children receiving stationery, and their parents given food and toiletries.

“Photos from my annual Christmas treat in my community Banana Ground. A big thank you @puma @fastelainefoundation @flowjamaica @ncbjamaica for making it possible each year. Thanks also to my friends and family merry Christmas,” Thompson-Herah posted on Instagram.

It has become an annual ritual for Thompson-Herah, who also partnered with her sponsors to support her newly-established Fast Elaine Foundation, to provide support to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I am feeling happy, I am overwhelmed. It was always a thing for me to give back," she told Jamaican outlet STAR Sports.

"Three years ago, I always wanted to create my own foundation and I finally got a chance to do it and I said the first thing [I would do] when I announce my foundation, was to give back to my community."

The Fast Elaine Foundation aims to provide school supplies and develop a nutrition programme to support children from underprivileged communities.

Thompson-Herah also revealed her plans to sponsor the academic pursuits of five students from her former high schools, Christiana High School, and Manchester High School.

The sprinter recently appointed Reynaldo Walcott as her new coach following her split from Shanikie Osbourne in November.

Thompson-Herah and Walcott began their collaboration less than a year before she defends her 100m and 200m titles at the Paris Olympics.
