Eliud Kipchoge, Faith Kipyegon and Joshua Cheptegei will unite in Uganda for an inspiring weekend of athletic collaboration.

Two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge and three-time Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon will feature as special guests at the seventh Joshua Cheptegei Kids Christmas Run in Kapchorwa this weekend, marking a milestone in the event's history.

The prestigious race, set to take place on Saturday, is a signature event of the Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation (JOCDEF), aimed at inspiring the youth while promoting community impact.

Kipchoge has dominated the marathon world for years and his presence in Kapchorwa is a thrilling addition to the event.

The 40-year-old Kenyan, who has run four of the 10 fastest marathons in history, is not just a role model for Cheptegei but for aspiring athletes around the globe.

Faith Kipyegon is equally celebrated for her three Olympic gold medals in the 1,500m.

She has twice competed in Uganda, first at the 2014 Africa Cross-Country Championship and again in the 2017 World Cross-Country Championship in Kampala.

Kipyegon, 30, is also known for her strong connections with Ugandan middle-distance stars Winnie Nanyondo and Halimah Nakaayi.

Kipyegon’s involvement in the Christmas run is set to motivate Ugandan youth and highlight the importance of sportsmanship and collaboration across borders.

“Yes,” Cheptegei confirmed about the trio’s visit, particularly Kipchoge to Kapchorwa this weekend as per Monitor.

In addition to Kipchoge and Kipyegon, Geoffrey Kamworor, another elite Kenyan runner, will also attend.

Kamworor is a key member of the NN Running Team alongside Cheptegei and Kipchoge, boasting three world half-marathon titles and two world cross-country championships.

His presence further strengthens the connection between Uganda and Kenya’s long-distance running community.

The Joshua Cheptegei Kids Christmas Run, which began years ago as a way to foster talent in the region, is expected to attract over 2,000 participants this year, a significant rise from last year’s 1,680.

The race offers various categories for young athletes, with distances ranging from 2km to 5km, as well as a special 5km walk race to raise awareness about gender-based violence.

Cultural and religious leaders will also be involved in the walk race, emphasizing the event's broader community impact.

“Their visit shows the global integration of friendship between the East African sportsmen. It shows that we are one though we compete but sports brings us together,” said JOCDEF’s programs director Abraham Kiplimo.

“We’ll have a 5km walk race to amplify the message about gender-based violence, involving cultural and religious leaders,” he added.

The event will take place at Boma grounds in Kapchorwa, a region well-known for producing top-tier athletes, including Cheptegei, who has claimed numerous global titles in long-distance running.

Over the years, Jocdef has identified promising young athletes through the Christmas Run and supported them with opportunities such as joining the foundation's athletics club and receiving bursaries for Joshua Cheptegei Junior School.
