Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge has shared how he is planning to conquer the Paris Olympics and make history by winning three straight gold medals.

Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge is putting full trust in his preparations as he seeks to make history by becoming the first man to winning three straight gold medals.

Kipchoge will get the chance to defend his title after making it to Kenya’s final marathon team alongside London Marathon champion Alexander Mutiso and Tokyo Marathon champion Benson Kipruto on Wednesday.

However, given his recent indifferent form, especially his 10th place finish in Tokyo, some observers feel he will have it rough in Paris but the marathon GOAT is unfazed and ready for the battle.

“I really want to have a good performance and I believe in my preparations and planning and I hope I will win,” said Kipchoge.

“If anything happens, this is sports and we accept the outcome because that is the only way to enjoy the sport.

“This is a huge goal to be cracked and I trust the load on my shoulders to shed away after Paris Marathon. I trust I will make it.”

Kipchoge admits it will not be easy in Paris where younger and hungrier runners are seeking to dethrone him from the throne but he is highly motivated by not just making history but also flying Kenya’s flag at a global stage.

“My plan is to prepare for the race, make sure I put all my heart, soul and mind,” added Kipchoge.

“It is a tough field and everyone is a champion. I do not underrate anyone, I give them maximum respect.

“This is the only way to give back to our country. I cannot build bridges, roads or bring technology to the country. It is the only way to market Kenya and be totally patriotic.”

Kipchoge has shown his resilience previously, especially last year when he bounced back from a sixth place finish in Boston to win the Berlin Marathon, and he will be counting on that again this year.

"I always say the Olympic dream is a special dream. The Olympic Games is what we all dream of as little kids starting out with our sport and is what motivates us the most today. I am beyond proud to be selected for the Kenyan team for the 5th time in my life. After winning the marathon gold medal in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, my focus will now be on Paris," Kipchoge said in a social media post.

Timothy Kiplagat, who finished second in Tokyo, will be on standby in case any of the selected three cannot make it to Paris.
