Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has opened up on what fuels his desire for success while sharing the strict training regimen that keeps him in top shape.

Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge says the love for sport and the need to keep inspiring the world to run are some of his key motivators.

Kipchoge is getting into the twilight years of his career but does not look like stopping anytime soon and maintains a strict training regimen with eyes on further success.

Even after a poor 2024 season, when he finished 10th in Tokyo and dropped out of the race at the Paris Olympics, Kipchoge is still keen to right those wrongs amidst calls for him to retire, and he says the need to keep inspiring others gives him the fuel to keep going.

“What keeps me going is the love of sport and the inspiration that I am instilling to the general community around the world,” Kipchoge said on Citizen TV's JKL.

“Sports itself is education, which is why we learn a lot of values and morals in sports. I want to urge everybody, that talent alone cannot take you places but you need to have talent plus education.

“Education and sport go hand in hand and if you want to go far in sports, education must be your right hand and if you want to go far in education sports must be there because it makes your mind work in a proper way.”

To show just how seriously he takes his craft, the 40-year-old keeps a strict regimen that some of his agemates would even struggle with but believes is the only way to get the best out of him.

“I wake up at 5:40 am, 6:10 am. I am on the road training for one-and-a-half hours, come back, have breakfast, and wait for another two hours for exercises. After that, I have lunch, then wait for the evening run and after the evening run, I prepare myself to have dinner and then go to bed. On Sundays I go for training once a day in the morning,” he added.

Kipchoge is yet to reveal which race he will feature in next but fans will have to get used to seeing him more on the road as he plots another major triumph.
