KDF ran away with the overall title having bagged 51 medals as NPS came in second with 31.
The sleeping giants KDF stunned on song National Police Service to clinch the overall title at the just-concluded Athletics Kenya National Championships staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.
KDF have been performing before their levels and for the longest time, they have been shown dust by NPS when it comes to track and field. However, they put up a good fight over the weekend to run away with the overall title having bagged 51 medals. NPS came in second with 31 medals as Kenya Prisons Service completed the podium with 23 medals.

ATHLETICS: Distinguished Police set to continue ruling feckless KDF
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala and Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa are among the stars who will be in action starting tomorrow.
In the men’s field, KDF bagged 30 medals courtesy of impeccable results from the likes of National Champion Wiseman Were who oozed class as he clocked 48.52 in the 400m Hurdles race to directly qualify for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Rukia Nusra, also of KDF, put up a good fight and set a new national record of 13.87 over the 110m Hurdles race. In the 100mH race, Were led a clean 1-2-3 sweep of KDF including Michael Musyoka who finished second, and William Mbevi who sealed the podium.
In the men’s 200m final, Boniface Mweresa and Samuel Chege took the first and second positions as Zablon Ekwan carried the day in the men’s 400m race. In the men’s 800m, Cornelius Tuwei of KDF finished second as Kipng’etich Ngeno of Kenya Prisons took the top honours.
Kyumbe Munguti of KDF took the lead in the men’s 1500m as Kibiwott Kandie won the men’s 10,000m with Irene Kimais dominating the women’s 25-lap race. In the field events, KDF dominated in the men’s Triple Jump, Hammer Throw, Discus Throw, High Jump, and Pole Vault.
The women impressed in the Shot Put and High Jump. The 20km race walk also saw Emily Ngii of KDF take the victory.
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala of NPS clocked 9.96 to win the 100m as Esther Mbagari of Prisons won the women’s 100m race and 200m too. Damaris Nduleve also won the 400m as Diana Chebet won the 400m Hurdles for NPS. Kisii Express Mary Moraa of NPS also raised the flag as she won the 800m.

ATHLETICS Omanyala replaced as the fastest man in the world this year
Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes displayed an impeccable show to clinch the 100m title in 9.83 at the USATF NYC Grand Prix.
Commonwealth Games 5000m champion Beatrice Chebet of NPS took top honours in the 1500m as Lilian Kasait of Prisons won the 5000m. Daniel Simiu of NPS also represented the officers well in the men’s 5000m. The 4x100m men’s race was also dominated by NPS.
Maximila Imali propelled the NPS to victory in the women’s Triple Jump and Long Jump as Julius Yego took top honours in the Javelin. Roselyn Rakamba of NPS also won the Hammer Throw. Peter Mwangi of Prisons won the men’s Shot Put and Samuel Gathimba won the men’s 20km race walk.
