Ese Brume makes Top 5 list of the world's highest-ranked jumpers in 2023

Despite not winning a major medal in 2023, multiple long jump medallist Ese Brume ended the season in the Top 5 of highest-ranked female jumpers in the world.

Nigeria's long jump queen Ese Brume has ended the 2023 season as the fourth highest-ranked jumper in the world.

In a list released by the World Athletics of the Top 5 ranked long jumpers for the year, the Nigerian finished fourth behind world champion Ivana Vuleta, USA's Tara Davis-Woodhall, Italy's youngster Larissa Lapichino, and ahead of USA's Quanesha Burks.

World champion Vuleta took the top position, amassing 1436 points from winning the World and Diamond League titles, and her 7.14m stayed as the world lead.

Davis-Woodhall's points of 1377 points placed her in second, the same points as Lapichino. However, the American was placed higher, having won the silver medal in Budapest, and has the second-best distance in the world this year of 7.07m to 6.97m.

Brume's points of 1347 were gathered from finishing fourth at the World Championships and placing second in the overall Diamond League standings.

The Nigerian and African record holder will hope to have a memorable 2024 year as she guns to win a second consecutive Olympic medal in Paris and her first Diamond League trophy.
