Emmanuel Wanyonyi has opened up about how Evans Chebet and Benson Kipruto have played vital roles in shaping his career as he chases history for Kenya at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi is in awe of Evans Chebet’s and Benson Kipruto’s helping hand in navigating his career in athletics where he is bound to face a ton of challenges.
Wanyonyi expressed his gratitude to Chebet, the two-time Boston Marathon champion and widely regarded as one of the most consistent marathoners in history. He also noted that Kipruto, the reigning Tokyo Marathon champion has played a huge role in ensuring he goes for whatever he wants.
Speaking during an interview in the Inside Track, the world 800m silver medallist explained that the 2022 New York City Marathon champion has been a helping hand in his career and has held his hand as he navigates.

It might be peculiar that Kipruto, Chebet and Wanyonyi train together since the former two are marathon runners while the latter is a track runner, running the 800m.

“My training mates, like Benson Kipruto and Evans Chebet, told me that everything is possible if you believe and train well. They also told me that if I was disciplined, everything is possible,” he said.
The 19-year-old added that the wise words made him believe he can also debut at the Olympic Games despite his young age.
He also singled out the likes of Sabastian Sawe and Cybrian Kotut as motivators in the training camp as he chases history for Kenya.
“So, I believe that I can run in the Olympic Games. I learn a lot from the older athletes because I’m still young and my career is also young.
“This is a senior training camp, so there’s a lot to learn from Benson, Cybrian Kotut, and Sabastian Sawe. My dream this year is to run at the Olympic Games.
