Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon is excited to be partnering with Beatrice Chebet at the Olympics, showering the newly crowned world record holder with praise.

Two-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon has showered newly-crowned world 10,000m record holder Beatrice Chebet with praise following her season opener at the Kenyan Olympic trials happening at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Kipyegon won the 5000m in style, clocking an impressive 14:46.28 to win the race ahead of Beatrice Chebet who clocked 14:52.55 for a second-place finish. Margaret Chelimo completed the podium, stopping the clock at 14:59.39.

The double world record holder was happy to have Chebet join her one more time in the quest for glory at the Olympic Games. Kipyegon lauded Chebet, going down memory lane to the World Championships in Budapest, where the former won a gold medal while the latter claimed the bronze medal.

She looks forward to competing with Chebet over the distance once again, promising something better this time around.

“It’s a really great team, working with this girl here, Beatrice. We were together in Budapest and I won gold and she won a bronze medal but this time around, we are going to do our best in Paris,” Kipyegon said in an interview after the race.

She was opening her season at the event and is also looking forward to impress in the 1500m before deciding on whether she will double at the two events.

She explained that her injury is now gone and she is ready to compete and fly the Kenyan flag high as she chases her third Olympic title in the 1500m.

“One already gone, let’s see what will happen tomorrow and then we shall decide whether I will double or not but I hope all will be well. I’ll go to the drawing board with my team and discuss. I’m back from an injury and I’m happy with my progress so far,” Kipyegon said.
