The 29-year-old will be making her first appearance in road running on Sunday and she has the record straight on what she wants to achieve.

Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon has fired warning shots at her opponents ahead of the World Road Running Championships on Sunday in Riga, Latvia.

The mother of one will be making her debut in the road mile and she has made her intentions clear. She expressed her elation on her X (Twitter) handle and promised Kenyans impeccable results.

“Track Road. Time to represent my country, Kenya one more time this season at the World Athletics Road Running Championships Riga 23, on October 1st. Check this space, I won't disappoint.”

The double world champion has had a stellar season, going unbeaten in all her races. She opened her season with a win at the Sirikwa Cross-country Classic where she bagged the senior women’s title.

The 29-year-old then opened her track season at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar where she won the 1500m in a world-leading time.

Kipyegon then proceeded to the Meeting in Florence, Italy where she set the 1500m world record before obliterating the 5000m world record at the Meeting in Paris, France.

However, her 5000m world record was broken by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay at the Prefontaine Classic.

After her dominant exploits in Paris, France, Kipyegon reigned supreme in the women’s 5000m at the World Championships National Trials. She then extended her hot streak to one of her favourite cities, Monaco, where she broke the one-mile world record.

She then went ahead to dominate at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where she won double gold in both the 1500m and 5000m. She ended her track season on a high after bagging the Diamond League Final Trophy.

However, as she sets the targets for the road mile, she will face an acid test from Ethiopia’s youngsters who will be out to represent their country well. Hirut Meshesha, Diribe Welteji, and, Freweyni Hailu are the Ethiopians out to challenge Kipyegon’s reign in the race.

Others in the chase for titles include Australia’s Jess Hull, Japan’s Nozomi Tanaka and Addison Wiley will also be competing.
