“I wrote in my diary that 2023 will be my special year and my dream came true. I’ve been working very hard to achieve the 1500m world record which was still missing in my pocket," Kipyegon told BBC Sport.
"What I changed a lot was believing in myself, I think I was not believing in myself before, that I can do what I did this year,”
The reigning Olympic 1500m champion added that athletes should practice patience and things will just fall into place for them. She also narrated how her daughter, Alyn, changed her mentality concerning life.
“Everything in life goes step by step…at the end, you will just achieve what you want. She (Alyn) changed my mentality because you know, when you’re still a young girl you just enjoy the world and the money you have," she added.
"However, when you have a baby, I think, it changed my mentality to know that I have someone who looks up to me as a mentor. It really changed my life."
