Faith Kipyegon to lead formidable Team Kenya to the World Road Running Championships

The World Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia from September 30 to October 1.

A couple of Team Kenya athletes participating at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary have been selected to compete at the upcoming World Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia from September 30 to October 1.

Triple world record holder Faith Kipyegon will lead the women’s mile team which will also include Nelly Chepchirchir and world 3000m Steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech.

The men’s Road Mile will feature the 2019 World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot, Abel Kipsang, and reigning World Under-20 champion Reynold Cheruiyot.

Meanwhile, the men’s 5km race will comprise Jacob Krop, Nicholas Kimeli, and Cornelius Kemboi, all of whom are featuring in the 5,000m at the World Championships in Budapest.

The women’s charge will be led by Carolyn Nyaga, Commonwealth Games 5000m champion Beatrice Chebet and Lilian Kasait.

Olympic champion Peris Jepchirchir will lead the half marathon squad alongside Irene Kimais who finished fourth in the women’s 10,000m at the World Championships. Others are Margaret Chelimo who will fly Kenya’s flag in the women’s 5,000m, Catherine Reline and Janeth Chepng’etich.
