The Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya and Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Tuesday, July 13, apprehended a suspect who was smuggling illegal medicine into the country.
In a press statement released by ADAK, the action occurred at 8:30 a.m. at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport when the suspect attempted to deceive the officers at the airport scanning area.

Kenya has been in Category A since 2016 but measures are being put in place to reduce the doping cases.
However, things did not unfold well for the suspect since the DCI Officers were well-versed in the dire state of Kenya in matters concerning doping. The officers seized medicine that contained 399 boxes of Levosalbutamol, 250 boxes of Carvedilol, and 150 boxes of Triamcinolone Acetonide injections.
In the recent past, Kenyan athletes have found themselves in hot soup after samples they provided were found to contain triamcinolone acetonide. Triamcinolone acetonide one of the most abused substances and it is among is a prohibited substance under the 2023 WADA Prohibited List under the category S9: Glucocorticoids.
Further reports noted that the suspect failed to provide a permit or license for the prohibited substances that were found in her possession. The suspect is set to be arraigned before the court on Wednesday, July 19.
It was noted that further investigations are currently underway and the Government, through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Arts and Sports has a zero-tolerance approach to doping in sport.

ADAK reported that they remain undeterred in the fight against doping in sport and continues to gather intelligence and conduct investigations on suspected doping activities around the country.
The Agency reiterates its commitment to discharging its mandate. Enforcement of the World Anti-Doping Code and ADAK Anti-Doping Rules shall continue, and the doping menace shall be defeated.
