Ferdinand Omanyama will have a busy 2024 season with the Paris Olympics his ultimate goal and he will have to skip some top events to ensure proper preparations
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has hinted at skipping the Kip Keino Classic in 2024 while confirming that he will not participate in the All Africa Games.
In a year when the Tokyo Olympics will be the main focus, Omanyala has laid out an elaborate plan on how he hopes to tackle the 2024 season with everything geared towards the Paris Games.
Omanyala plans to start his season with the World Indoor Tour which will culminate in the World Indoor Games in Glasgow, Scotland before he embarks on the Diamond League which will give way to the Olympics.

ATHLETICS Ferdinand Omanyala out to add another race to 100m at Paris Olympic Games
Ferdinand Omanyala has disclosed that he will be adding the 200m to the cart next season as he looks to double at the Olympic Games.
“The main purpose for doing the indoor tour is because we have the World Indoor Games in Glasgow and last time I was there, I got to the semi-finals so I have bigger goals for the games,” Omanyala told the National Olympic Committee of Kenya.
The Commonwealth champion then explained why he might not feature at the Kip Keino Classic where he has lit up the event in the last two years.
“Kip Keino is one of the meets that I look forward to but that depends with the organisers because I am not the same athlete I was this year and I am not the same athlete I was last year when I was running Kip Keino,” he added.

ATHLETICS Ferdinand Omanyala explains why he changed coaches ahead of Olympic Games
Ferdinand Omanyala has shared the reason why he stopped working with former coach Duncan Ayiemba and chose Geoffrey Kimani.
“Levels change, status change so I am hoping that the organisers will meet our expectations of the meet and if they do, we are going to give the Kenyans a good show. Not yet confirmed but we are still waiting.”
With the 2024 All Africa Games taking place from March 8-23, just five days after the World Indoor Games, the event will come too soon for Omanyala who will focus on a couple of Diamond League races instead as he builds towards the Olympics.
“All African Games is not in our next year calendar because it is a week later after the World Indoor Games. We will focus on World Indoor Games and come back home and start focusing on the outdoor season,” said Omanyala.

ATHLETICS Noah Lyles doubles down on his criticism of 2023 World Athlete of the Year Awards debacle
American sprint king Noah Lyles has continued his criticism over how World Athletics handled the 2023 World Athlete of the Year Awards.
“Our main target is the World Indoor Games and then the Diamond League. We will look to do two or three before the Olympics and after the Olympics, prepare for the Diamond League Final.”
Omanyala has also stressed the importance of having a 4x100m Kenyan team at the Olympics after missing at the 2023 World Championships which he feels could have been his saving grace after his seventh-place finish in the 100m final.
Team Kenya will seal their place if they qualify for the 4x100m final at the 2024 World Relay in Nassau, Bahamas next May.

Sha'Carri Richardson has maintained her on sought on authorities after calling out the US Anti-Doping Agency for making ‘unnecessary’ dope testing changes that ‘do not favour athletes’
“I am passionate about team sports and I hope we can push the 4x100m team to the Olympics. We need to get to the World Relays on May 4 and make sure we get to that final,” stressed Omanyala.
“I hope my team-mates are also working as hard as I am because we need to work as a team starting January and February to get the team to the final because if we do that, we are into the Olympics and the 2025 World Championships.
“But I need to see commitment from my other team-mates because it will be fun and games to go out there and just participate. We are past that level, we want to go out there and be counted as competitors.”
