Nigeria's speedster Godson Brume has announced he won't be at the World Championships in Budapest, but will focus on getting healthy for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Louisiana State University (LSU) standout sprinter Godson Brume has withdrawn from the upcoming World Championships in Budapest due to injury.

Brume announced this via his Twitter handle, confirming he will focus on getting healthy for Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

"I want to thank everyone who supported me. This is a hard decision for me, but with much consideration, I’ve decided to focus on getting healthy for next year. With that being said I will not be competing at Budapest this August. Lastly, I will be coming back to the bayou next year," he tweeted.

The 20-year-old has the fastest time of 9.90s clocked by a Nigerian sprinter this season heading to Budapest, and his time is the eighth-fastest in the world. He was also the 100m silver medallist at the NCAA Championships and was unbeaten prior to that moment.

Brume was an integral member of his school's relay squad, anchoring LSU to record-breaking times and winning the NCAA 4x100m title.

Coming back to Nigeria, he couldn't compete at the Nigerian Trials but was the anchor runner for the 4x100m team that qualified for the World Championships at the Warri Relays in Asaba.

Brume is a vital athlete for Nigeria in the 100m and the relays, and his absence will be a big miss in Budapest.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) will now have to focus on selecting the sprinters that'll don the country's colours in the men's 100m and 4x100m, drafting National champion Usheoritse Itsekiri and second-placed finisher Seye Ogunlewe in the selection to Budapest.
