The former Olympic 100m champion has detailed why Kishane Thompson will be a lethal threat in the 100m in 2025.

American sprint legend Justin Gatlin has explained why Kishane Thompson is the athlete to watch in the coming season and why he might just get through the top five fastest 100m runners of all time.

At the moment, Usain Bolt still holds the fastest time in the distance with Tyson Gay and Yohan Blake tying in second place. Asafa Powell and Justin Gatlin come fourth and fifth but Gatlin, a former Olympic champion, believes that is going to change soon.

Speaking on the Ready Set Go podcast, Justin Gatlin revealed that Kishane Thompson is a true definition of resilience and hard work and he has always put in the work despite a series of injury setbacks.

He pointed out that people were not keen on focusing on his abilities and most of the time, fans would only focus on who the winners were and they were not looking at the second or third-place finishers, hence failing to notice Kishane Thompson’s mastery.

“Kishane’s progression has been shrouded in mystery but it was right there in front of our faces the whole time and you (Rodney Green) recognised it,” Justin Gatlin said.

“We were just looking at the winners the entire time and just saying cool to whoever got second, whoever got third but looking at his progression from 9.85 seconds, and that’s not light work bro, that’s running and we didn’t really stop and say that he did some work.

“He has now come up To all those just saying, who is Kishane, he just popped up, no he didn’t, he has been putting the work in and he has just been overshadowed by a lot of people putting in the work too.”

On his part, Rodney Green, Justin Gatlin’s co-host explained that one reason why people never noticed Kishane Thompson was because he raced sparingly due to injuries. He added that the MVP Track Club has its own way of doing things that many might never understand.

However, winning a silver medal behind Noah Lyles at this year’s Paris Olympic Games would definitely give Kishane Thompson the hunger to make a commanding comeback next season.

“He doesn’t race a lot and that’s why, he gets injured a few times and, in their camp,, they always out someone in a race when they are ready,” Green said.
