Hellen Ekalale claimed top honours in the senior women’s race after leading from gun to tape. Christine Njoki and Joyline Cherotich came in second in second and third respectively.
Ekalale revealed that she had just jetted into the country from Japan a week ago and she had not done enough training. Winning the race after very light training is a sign that she is on the right track in terms of preparations for next season.

I have started my journey to stardom here and I want to work really hard and hopefully represent Kenya at the World Championships next year. I want to work hard and be like Beatrice Chebet and I will work very hard to run well,” Ekalale said.
The senior men’s race saw Vincent Kibet Langat run a tactical race to claim the top prize with Wesley Kipkemoi Yego and John Lomoni finishing second and third.
The women’s under-20 6km race was won by Celestine Mantaine who clocked 23:14 ahead of Alice Chemutai and Sandra Jepchumba who clocked 23:32 and 23:35 respectively.
Speaking after the duel, second-place finisher Chemutai was excited to have been a part of the race and lauded Athletics Kenya for organising the cross-country events.
“The race was good but very competitive…the course has been great and I’m grateful for this performance. I thank my training mates and coaches for walking with me. My secret is being consistent in training and I thank God to have finished second yet again,” Alice Chemutai said.

The men’s under-20 8km race saw Kevin Kiprop claim top honours, clocking 26:11 to finish the race. Silas Senchura and Evans Kipkosgei came in second and third in 26:23 and 26:34 respectively.
The women’s 2km look saw Naomi Korir claim her third title in the AK cross-country series with Olympian Lilian Odira and Japan-based Miriam Cherop finishing second and third.
The men’s 2km loop was won by Reagan Kibet as Brian Kiptoo came in second, complaining about the tough weather conditions. Levi Kipkurui completed the podium in the race.
