Kipyegon, in a span of one week, managed to break the 1500m and 5000m world records.

Two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri believes double world record holder Faith Kipyegon is capable of breaking another world record before the end of the 2023 season.

Kipyegon, in a span of one week, managed to break the 1500m world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy before breaking the 5000m world record at the Meeting in Paris, France.

Obiri believes the 29-year-old has the ability to pull off another surprise since she is a strong and dedicated athlete.

“She’s amazing! I think she’s going to break so many records. She’s so strong and young and she has the speed. I think before this year ends, she might have broken three world records,” Obiri said.

Kipyegon’s next port of call is at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco where she will be taking on the mile, a distance she last ran during the Diamond League meeting in Oslo in 2016.

Meanwhile, the world 10000m silver medallist also revealed that missing out on this year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary was not an easy decision to make but she also wanted to give an opportunity to young athletes.

“I’m going to miss competing at the World Championships but it’s also good to give chances to young athletes to showcase their talents. I’m definitely going to enjoy watching other ladies do their best,” she said.

The reigning Boston Marathon champion added that after the Boston 10km, she will go back into training and hopefully compete in a 10km road race in August before competing in another marathon later this year.
