Two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri hopes to win her first ever Olympic gold medal at next year’s Paris Olympics.
Obiri, who has won two gold medals at the World Championships is yet to win an Olympic gold medal and she hopes that dream will come true next year. She has, however, managed to win two Olympic silver medals over the 5000m distance.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Obiri revealed that she will be hoping to make Team Kenya to the global event and she will be competing over the full marathon distance.
"I will work hard to be in the Kenya (marathon) team for Paris 2024. I have won gold medals in World Championships so I'm looking for Olympic gold. It is the only medal missing in my career,” she said, as quoted by BBC Sport.
Obiri has had a steady rise in her career that saw her start off on the track, cross-country and she eventually switched to the full marathon last year during the New York City Marathon.
As a debutant at the event, she managed a sixth-place finish after clocking 2:25:49. She revealed that miscalculations cost her a podium finish.

The Kenyan had to make sacrifices and put in several changes in her preparations before upsetting the strong field.
"I used to run from the front in track races. I thought even in a marathon I can run in front. That cost me a lot because in a marathon you can't do all the work for 42km. What I learned from New York is patience, just wait for the right time so you can make a move," she said.

She then stunned the masses at the Boston Marathon to record her first win in what was her second full marathon race.
"That was one good moment for me, at the finish line seeing my daughter. I cannot even explain what I felt,” she said.
