Coach Dathan Ritzenhein has disclosed one of the greatest powers that keeps Hellen Obiri going.

Hellen Obiri’s coach Dathan Ritzenhein is proud of how the newly crowned New York City Marathon champion has evolved and is slowly making big moves in the sport.

The tactician disclosed that the reigning Boston Marathon champion has made significant steps when it comes to training especially when it comes to her recovery and observed that Obiri has become stronger.

“She has gotten very stronger and I’m not saying that the workouts don’t do anything to her but she has elevated to the level where she understands her body.

"She can do these workouts and sometimes she makes me wonder if what she’s doing is normal. I can’t start to normalise that because that’s one of her powers and she can just recover like crazy.

"This marathon is the slowest long run she has done in this build-up but also the fastest 400m she has run,” the coach explained.

He also noted that he was not sure Obiri would triumph in the streets of New York City but her win proved that she was still strong and ready to go.

Ritzenhein added that with such power and strength, she definitely needs to be on the Olympic team.

“I was actually second-guessing myself at the end since we have not polished on that part yet but she still has some skills.

"She has done a lot of road races and 10km races and the power is still there, she still has it. It would be scandalous if she isn’t on the Olympic team but you know I’m not in charge,” he said.
