ATHLETICS Hellen Obiri explains why New York City marathon victory means the world to her
Hellen Obiri has opened up on why the New York City Marathon victory holds a special place in her heart.
“She has gotten very stronger and I’m not saying that the workouts don’t do anything to her but she has elevated to the level where she understands her body.
"She can do these workouts and sometimes she makes me wonder if what she’s doing is normal. I can’t start to normalise that because that’s one of her powers and she can just recover like crazy.
"This marathon is the slowest long run she has done in this build-up but also the fastest 400m she has run,” the coach explained.
He also noted that he was not sure Obiri would triumph in the streets of New York City but her win proved that she was still strong and ready to go.
