Agnes Ngetich is keenly following in the footsteps of reigning Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri.

World Cross-country bronze medallist Agnes Ngetich is keenly following in the footsteps of reigning Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri.

After her triumph at the third Athletics Kenya Cross-country meet, Ngetich disclosed that she would love to be like Obiri, who has made many achievements on the track and is also doing the same on the roads.

The Brasov Running Festival 10km winner gushed over Obiri, saying that she never gives up and she is forever motivated to do better, something that keeps Ngetich’s fire burning.

Obiri is a two-time world 5000m champion, a world 10,000m silver medallist, and a two-time Olympic silver medallist. She is also the reigning Boston Marathon champion and has managed to lose only one race this season.

“My role model in the long-distance races is Hellen Obiri…I love the way the way she always perseveres and how she always fought," said a happy Ngetich.

"She gives me the motivation that I can also fight and do better in all my races.”

The 22-year-old has had quite a mixed 2023 season but she seems refueled ahead of the 2024 season where her eyes are fixed on the Olympic Games.

She explained that she will be hoping to represent the country in the 10,0000m on the global stage and she is not giving up on her dream despite missing out on the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary this season.

During the national trials, Ngetich managed a sixth-place finish to miss out on a slot in the global showpiece.

“At the Olympic Games, I want to run in the 10,000m and I want to do well and bring home a medal,” she said.
