Gout Gout's father Bona has revealed his son's real name as he explained why he wants his name changed.

Gout Gout’s father Bona has noted that a misspelling in his son’s name has cost how he will be called for years but noted that they want to change that going forward.

In an interview with 7News, Bona revealed that his son’s name should be pronounced as ‘Gwot’ and not as people have been calling him, revealing that the other name is of a disease and he does not want his son to be called after that.

Gout is an inflammatory disease that comes about when excess uric acid builds up in the blood. This build-up leads to inflammation in one or more joints with the big toe joint being the most commonly affected.

A frustrated Bona revealed that they want to change his name back to the original to avoid being associated with the disease.

“His name is Guot, it’s supposed to be Guot. When I see people called him Gout Gout I’m not really happy for him,” his father said.

“I know that Gout Gout is a disease name but I don’t want my son to be called a disease name ... it’s something that’s not acceptable.”

Meanwhile, this comes after Gout Gout made headlines by shattering the 56-year-old Australian record in the 200m. It was the longest-standing record in Australian athletics. Gout Gout’s time of 20.04 seconds broke Peter Norman’s mark of 20.06 seconds set at the 1968 Olympic Games.

On top of breaking the Australian record, Gout Gout also shattered Usain Bolt’s world under-16 record of 20.13 seconds set back in 2003. Before his 200m exploits, Gout had won the 100m title in a personal best time of 10.17 seconds, having clocked a wind-assisted 10.04 (3.4m/s) in the heats.

Following his impressive running style, he has attracted a lot of comparisons to Usain Bolt with the legendary Jamaican sprinter agreeing that Gout reminds him of his time as a young athlete. “He looks like young me,” Bolt said as per Jumpers World account.

Gout Gout is now gearing up for intense training with triple-world champion Noah Lyles in Florida in January after he signed with Adidas. The bold move will help him sharpen a series of things and he will look to become an unbeatable youngster.
