Kipyegon, who completed a hat-trick of 1500 Olypic gold medals in Paris this year, has delved into the routine that has made her unstoppable over the last decade.

Iconic Kenyan middle-distance star Faith Kipyegon has delved into the routine that has made her unbeatable over the last one decade.

Months after clinching a historic third Olympic gold in the 1500 meters at the Paris Games, Kipyegon reflected on the relentless focus and dedication that have made her unbeatable for over a decade.

Her 2024 season has been nothing short of extraordinary. In addition to her Olympic triumph, she claimed a silver medal in the 5000 meters and broke her own 1500-meter world record at the Paris Diamond League, clocking 3:49.04.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s JK Live, Kipyegon outlined her daily routine, which she credits for her dominance.

“It is similar to Eliud’s because we train at the same camp, but I run lesser kilometers than him because he specializes in the 42-kilometer race while I focus on 1500 meters,” Kipyegon explained.

“We wake up at 5:40 and meet at the gate where we start our training at six, then we come back, have some breakfast, have some rest, and then return from exercise before breaking for lunch, and then come back for the evening run. After that, it is tea time, dinner and then rest every day.”

“We wait until it is clear because when it is still dark, you may get injured, so it is easier to run when there is light,” she added, emphasizing the importance of safety during training.

Kipyegon’s impact extends far beyond her performances. In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Education by the University of Eldoret and received the prestigious Golden Plate from the United States Academy of Achievers in September.

Off the track, her accolades this season include a victorious showing at the Athlos New York City meet, where she clocked 4:04.79 in the women-only race, earning a remarkable Ksh7.7 million in prize money.

Kipyegon’s dominance isn't confined to 2024. In 2023, she shattered world records in the 1500 meters and the mile within 49 days, further cementing her legacy. Despite an injury setback earlier this year, she returned stronger, qualifying for both the 1500 and 5000-meter events at the Paris Olympics and excelling in the Diamond League, where she won her fifth trophy at the Brussels meet.

For Kipyegon, success boils down to three key principles:

“Discipline is everything, hard work, and being focused. When you work hard, there is payment at the end of it.”

As a member of the NN Running Club, alongside marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge, Kipyegon exemplifies the virtues of perseverance and discipline. Her journey, marked by record-breaking performances and global recognition, serves as an inspiration to athletes worldwide.
