At the World Championships, he will clash with some of the other 100m greats including defending champion Fred Kerley.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala was in a class of his own at the just-concluded World Championships National Trails where he clocked the third fastest time (9.85) to win the men’s 100m final.

With the time he posted, the Commonwealth Games champion is bullish ahead of the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where he intends to win a gold medal for Kenya. If he manages a podium finish at the global show, he will be the first African to win a medal at the event.

At the World Championships, he will clash with some of the other 100m greats including defending champion Fred Kerley and world 200m champion Noah Lyles.

“I’m also a big boy, we are going to do what we’ve been doing before. We’ve been in the Diamond League Series and I’ve been competing with people I’ll be competing against at the World Championships.

I’ve seen some have already pulled out of the event. I will be going for nothing but gold when I take on my opponents,” he bullishly said.

Omanyala has had steady growth this year since he opened his indoor tour with a tour in France and managed to win three of the four races he competed in. He then went for his outdoor tour in South Africa where he won the two races he was competing in.

After South Africa, Omanyala upset home talent Letsile Tebogo to clinch the 100m at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix before putting up a good fight to shine on home soil during the Kip Keino Classic.

He then kickstarted his Diamond League Series campaign at the Meeting in Rabat, Morocco where he finished third. After Morocco, he went to the Meetings in Florence, Italy, and Paris, France, and managed to finish second in both events.

His next destination will be the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco before he heads to Budapest.

He also attested that the Diamond League Meetings have given him a lot of exposure and he has gained experience.

“We have been putting in a lot of work and it’s paying off well. Running 9.85 at the National Championships was a surprise and I can say, we are getting there,” he noted.
