Former World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot has admitted to getting better following his second-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar.
The race was Cheruiyot’s first 1500m race of the season following his seventh-place finish in the 800m at the Kip Keino Classic which was won by World 800m silver medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
The 1500m race in Doha was won by Brian Komen, who clocked an impressive 3:32.43 to cross the finish line as Cheruiyot came in second in a season-best time of 3:32.67. The World Under-20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot completed the podium after stopping the clock at 3:32.96.

In a post-race interview, Cheruiyot admitted to be bouncing back steadily as he seeks to make the cut to the Olympic team ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“It was a very good race, I am happy to be back, I feel that I am getting better. It was so exciting to see Kenyans competing, especially knowing that the Olympics are around the corner. The crowd is very good, there are so many Kenyans here. The wind did not affect me today at all,” Cheruiyot said.
Meanwhile, the Olympic Games silver medallist has suffered an injury bout and even posted dismal results at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The 28-year-old faltered and ended up finishing ninth in the semifinal of the 1500m and could not proceed to the final of the race.
Following his unceremonious exit from the event, Cheruiyot took to his social media handles to explain that he would take a break from competing and just returned this season with his first competition being the Kip Keino Classic.
“I'm so proud to have represented Kenya at my 5th consecutive World Champs. But it's clear I've not been 100% fit at recent races. Thankfully, after assessment & treatment, a niggle affecting my knee is being managed well with 2/3 weeks rest being advised.
