Following his triumph in a record time at the Atlanta City Games, Noah Lyles believes he is getting closer to Usain Bolt's world record and has revealed the specific time he wants to run this season.

Triple world champion Noah Lyles believes he is getting closer to Usain Bolt’s world record following his explosive run at the Atlanta City Games.

Lyles clocked an American record time of 14.41, just 0.06 behind Usain Bolt's world record time of 14.35 in the 150m.

Lyles had a steady start from the blocks with Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes leading for the better part of the race until Lyles unleashed his finishing kick to take the crown. The Briton finished second in an impressive time of 14.66.

“I was shooting for a world record but I mean, I’m going to settle for Tyson’s American record. I’m not going to lie that track was bouncy but I knew that going into the race and I had to deal with it.

“My win here means I’m going to run faster than any other year, I mean, Tyson Gay is a 9.69 runner so in my head I’m ready to run a 9.6 because I had a great start and in the first two steps it felt like I had everybody and in the fifth and sixth step I was clear of everybody and when we were about 50m to go, I was already out,” Lyles said.

He now gears up for the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston, Jamaica, where he plans to drop something special for the audience.

The two-time world 200m champion also shared that the reception in Jamaica was great and they treat athletes like rock stars, they type of energy he admitted to love.

“After today, I’m expecting to give them my all. After the last time I went there it’s where track and field athletes feel like rock stars and I truly mean that.

“The last time I went there and I tried to get a regular room and they were like ‘no, you gotta stay in our best villas’.

“And I was like I’m just here for two days but they refused. You really get treated like a Rockstar and feeding off that energy makes me excited to come there and run there. I want to give them something special and drop bombs,” Lyles added.
