Athletics lovers in Uganda and globally were left in disbelief after long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo was ruled out of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary through injury.
A statement from the Uganda Athletics Federation confirmed the unpleasant development on Friday, revealing that he got injured on August 01 during training in Kapchorwa.
With showdown slated for less than a week, the over three-week injury will not permit Kiplimo to take part, to the dismay of Ugandans and many of his fans all over the world.
Some believe that Kiplimo was an assured gold or silver medal and it's now a missed opportunity.
Others are still in shock and feel he held Uganda's best opportunity for gold in the 10,000 and 5,000 meters.
Meanwhile, a section of other fans feel the world championships will underwhelm with his absence.
Kiplimo won't be expected back in action at least until September in Latvia in half-marathon.
