Sha'Carri Richardson blazes to a stunning Championship Record to win her first world title in Budapest
Sha'Carri Richardson smashed the World Championship Record to become the new women's 100m World Champion in Budapest.
She overcame the challenges posed by Shericka Jackson, who settled for the silver medal in 10.72s, and defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was third in 10.77s.
Richardson's victory silenced her doubters and made more people believe in her special talent as she's now rated in the league of the best female 100m sprinters in history.
Reacting to her iconic feat in a post-race interview with NBCSports, the 22-year-old spoke on how she wanted her performances to speak for itself this year.
"...Just knowing that hard work pays off, it's been a lot that I've been going through, but to overcome all of that and my work speaking for itself made some silent this year because I wanted my performances to speak all that I needed to speak for myself. It feels amazing. It feels like everything has paid off."
When asked if she feels like she has earned the respect of the world and Jamaicans by winning the title, this was her response.
"I feel like I've earned the respect for myself, not the Jamaicans. That's the biggest thing for me now, for Sha'Carri Richardson.
"I've put that respect on me for me. I've been downplaying myself for so long, and this entire season I know I belong, I know I deserve to be here, and it just feels amazing to execute that as well."
Richardson will be gunning to do the double by winning the 200m and become the first American athlete to achieve such a feat in recent years.
