Scottish track sensation Josh Kerr is set to make a thrilling season debut in the 800m at the Oregon Relays.

Two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Josh Kerr is set to make a dazzling season debut in the 800m event on April 19 under the luminous skies of Hayward Field during the Oregon Relays in Eugene.

The Scottish sensation is coming off a triumphant indoor season highlighted by clinching 3000m gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

Kerr's participation at the Oregon Relays signals a shift to outdoor competitions, as he prepares to build on his spectacular performance in 2023, where he secured the 1500m gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Oregon Relays director, Ross Krempley, has expressed his enthusiasm about having athletes of Kerr's caliber at the event.

“We are beyond thrilled to have Josh and Raevyn at the Oregon Relays,” Krempley stated.

“To have two of the best middle distance athletes in the world showcase their talent in loaded races at the peak of our nightly high school high-performance windows will hopefully create a dream experience for all the athletes and fans."

Kerr will not be alone in his quest for victory; he is joined by his Brooks Beasts teammates, Isaiah Harris and Brandon Miller, both of whom bring their own impressive credentials to the fiercely competitive men’s 800m field.

Harris, the silver medalist at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships and a recent competitor for Team USA at the World Indoor Championships, along with Miller, a two-time NCAA DI Indoor champion, ensure the race will be a highlight of the meet.

Other notable athletes slated to compete in the men’s 800m include Sam Prakel and Sam Ellis, adding depth and intrigue to what promises to be a closely contested race.

The Oregon Relays Pro Challenge is part of a broader effort to bring top-tier athletic competition to Eugene, offering more than $5,000 (equivalent to Ksh 650,000) in prize money per event across disciplines including the men’s mile, DMR, women’s 800m, and women’s 1500m.
